Cherry blossoms are closely associated to Japan but do you know that you can also see the most beautiful part of spring in other parts of the world including North America?
A cherry blossom, which is a flower of trees belonging to the genus Prunus, is thought to have been native in the Himalayas in Central Asia and have been re-cultivated to other temperate countries like South Korea, China, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Canada, and the US.
The Branch Brook Park, which is shared by the City of Newark and the Town of Belleville in New Jersey, is the oldest country park in the US and is the home of the nation’s largest collection of cherry blossom trees with about 4,300. Japan also gave 3,000 cherry blossom trees as a gift to the US in 1912 which were planted in Manhattan and line the shore of the Tidal basin in Washington D.C, specifically the West Potomac Park where they held the annual Cherry Blossoms Festival.
If you remember, our perfect guinea pigs for the Love Language exercise are my parents. Our next is “Gifts”.
My mom and dad’s thinking about Gift Giving is simple: He/She thought about me (regardless of how little or much it costs or how often you receive the same presents).
Through many years, I’ve seen my parents surprise each other with presents (big and small) even without occasions.
Dad’s thoughtful gifts to my Mom:
- Yellow flowers on some days when he came home from work
- Watches (always symbolized “time for each other”)
- Fresh Cherries as soon as it came to season (my mom is not a “fruit” person but she loves cherries)
- A collection of Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, and Tony Bennett songs 🙂
- Love Notes
- More yellow flowers 🙂
Dear Yours Truly Readers,
A few years after I graduated from college, I met Celine at work. We became good friends. Unfortunately, we lost touch about 3 ½ years ago after her divorce. I still think about her… but, I know that because of our differences in opinions, she chose to detach herself from me. I miss her though.
Celine married Andrew who is a singer in a local band. His weekends (staring on Thursdays through Sundays) were normally spent at bars and in community fests. They were in love. She followed him everywhere he performed. After one year of dating, they got engaged and married. They had their first daughter a year after that. Andrew continued to sing on weekends until their daughter turned 3.
Their marriage hit the rocks. Celine started to feel neglected and pressured on weekends to care for their daughter and a new born baby. She wanted Andrew to change his career to a “normal job” where he can stay with the kids on weekends.

Dear Yours Truly Readers,
“Do you love me?” I asked Chad a couple of days ago. It puts a smile on Chad’s face each time he hears this question.
I’m sure you’ve experienced when you say or do something that reminds you of your parents! In this case, I’m just like my dad.
When he was still alive, I often heard them say sweet nothings to each other. It’s hilarious at the same time adorable!
So, here’s their typical conversation many years ago:
There maybe a hundred references about how to take care of your partner but what about your wedding ring?
That shiny and sparkly jewelry is the symbol of your success – finding the perfect guy you will spend the rest of your life with. But the same as how you work hard to keep your marriage altogether, how will you make your engagement ring shine brightly… forever.
Yours Truly did a little research on how to wear your wedding ring as beautiful as it is seen on your wedding album (Click here for more details about wedding albums). Here is a handy guide on taking care of your gorgeous love bond.
We talked about the Love Language #1: Quality of Time from my blog last week. Today, we’ll chat about Love Language #2– Words of Affirmation.
Words of Affirmation – what does this mean? It simply means to fill the “love tank” of your partner, husband or wife, who has this love language as an important part in the relationship.
Let’s examine my mom and dad’s marriage again as an example.
Here are some of “words of affirmation” I’ve heard either of them say to each other:
